Taking a Break From Social Media: A Lesson in Self-Care

In today's world, our devices and the world around us are constantly connected. Social media has become an integral part of our lives, and it's hard to imagine a day without scrolling through our feeds. But what happens when social media becomes overwhelming? When we feel like we can't keep up with the constant notifications, messages, and updates?

In my personal experience, I have found myself in a similar situation. With my life being so busy with managing my business, working with associates, finishing client projects, and moving house, I was feeling overwhelmed with everything going on. As a result, I decided to take a step back and take a two-week break from Instagram. However, that break ended up turning into a month-long one.

During my break, I realized that taking a break from social media doesn't mean my business will fall apart. In fact, it gave me the opportunity to focus on my clients' projects and take a break from working "on" my business. I had lost my creativity and even considered quitting everything altogether. But taking a slight rest gave me new direction and reminded me why I started my business in the first place.

It's important to remember that taking care of yourself is crucial to running a successful business. If you're feeling overwhelmed, taking a break from social media might be just what you need. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

  • Set boundaries: Decide when and how much time you want to spend on social media and stick to it. For example, you might decide to only check your notifications for 30 minutes at the end of each day.

  • Focus on your clients: Use the extra time you have to focus on your clients' projects and deliver the best possible results. This might include reaching out to them more frequently or offering additional services.

  • Take a break: If you're feeling overwhelmed, take a break and step away from social media for a little while. It might just be the refresher you need. During this break, try to focus on other activities that make you happy and help you relax, such as reading a book, going for a walk, or spending time with loved ones.

Remember, it's important to take care of yourself, and it's ok to take a break. Your business will still be here when you're ready to come back. By taking the time to prioritize your mental health and well-being, you'll be better equipped to handle the challenges that come with running a business.
